EVERETT, WASHINGTON -- Former Brooklin Redmen Jeff Zywicki continues to light up the National Lacrosse League.
The 28-year-old Nepean native had nine points, three goals and six assists, in a 12-11 Washington Stealth victory over the Colorado Mammoth during week four action.
Through five games, Zywicki has totaled 13 goals and 35 points to lead the entire league. The Stealth also find themselves out in front, as the only undefeated team remaining in the NLL with a record of 5-0.
Friday night they are back at it, hosting the Minnesota Swarm, which were coming off an 11-7 loss to the Buffalo Bandits (1-4) last weekend. Whitby's Zack Greer (undisclosed) missed that game for the Swarm (1-3).
His brother Bill Greer, of Oshawa, however, was in the lineup for the Orlando Titans (2-1) as they downed the Rochester Knighthawks 13-8. Oshawa's Shawn Williams had a goal and two helpers for the Knighthawks, which earlier in week four play, laid a surprising 16-8 pounding on the previously undefeated Toronto Rock. In the two games, Williams combined for two goals and five helpers, while the Knighthawks now sit at 3-2 on the year.
The Rock remains in first at 3-1.
In Edmonton, coach/GM Derek Keenan, of Oshawa, has his Rush club playing well. Behind two goals and three points from Whitby's Gavin Prout, the Rush improved to 3-1 with a 14-11 decision over the Calgary Roughnecks (1-3).
In the only other game last weekend, Whitby's Nick Cotter was held without a goal, but chipped in an assist, as the Boston Blazers (2-3) slipped past the Philadelphia Wings 11-9. Hampton's Jason Crosbie has two helpers in a losing cause for the Wings (1-3).
A week earlier, Cotter scored four goals in Boston's first victory of the season last weekend, a 13-9 decision over the Orlando Titans.
