NATCHITOCHES, LOUISIANA -- Northwestern State women's soccer head coach Jimmy Mitchell announced the signing of 10 players earlier this week, and former Ajax Storm player Ashlee Savona was one of them.
"This class is a very important one for our program," said Mitchell in a press release. "We lost seven seniors this past season, all that were very influential players for us. Anytime you lose that many players, it's vital that you replace them with not only good players but with good people."
Savona, a Mississauga native, is a product of St. Martins Separate School where she played on the Ontario provincial team in 2008, helping the squad to the Canadian national championship.
In addition, she spent time playing with the Storm in 2006, Oakville Redgales in 2007, Dixie Blades in 2008 and the Dixie Mississauga Gladiators.
She was recently named to the Guyanese national team.
"Ashlee loves the game of soccer and you can see that passion when she plays," Mitchell commented. "She'll be representing Guyana in the World Cup qualifiers this spring, so she should be well prepared when she gets here in the fall."
