Former Redmen captain has eight points in 15-4 Excelsiors win

BRAMPTON -- The Brooklin Redmen may not want to make the playoffs after Thursday night's game.
Facing the defending Mann Cup champion Brampton Excelsiors on the road at the Powerade Centre, the Redmen were given a dose of reality, as they were blasted 15-4 in Major Series Lacrosse action.
It doesn't bode well for the Redmen's chances of going far, even if they make the playoffs, as they are clearly no match for the league's elite.
Leading the way for the home side was none other than Shawn Williams, the longtime Redmen captain who was recently traded to Brampton for four first-round draft picks.
Williams scored five goals and added three assists to move back ahead of his new teammate, Josh Sanderson, in the MSL scoring race. Williams now has 75 points while Sanderson, who had two goals and three assists Thursday, has 74.
Steve Hutchins scored a pair of goals for the Redmen, who trailed only 6-4 heading into the third period.
But power-play goals by Aaron Wilson and Kevin Ross in the first five minutes of the third period sparked an unanswered nine-goal outburst by Brampton in the final frame.
Stephen Hoar and Scott Campbell scored the other Redmen goals, while Joel Weber faced 59 Brampton shots in goal.
Brooklin (3-12) remained tied for the sixth and final playoff spot with the Barrie Lakeshores (3-11), who lost 11-6 to the Six Nations Chiefs Thursday.
The Redmen are in Waterloo Sunday to face the Kitchener-Waterloo Kodiaks and play host to the Lakeshores 8 p.m. Wednesday at Iroquois Park before closing out the season at Six Nations July 18.
