Local judo practitioners stand out in Germany

BERLIN -- Oshawa native Derek Langlois, posted an impressive fifth place finish in the men's 55kg at the German Youth Open Judo tournament.

Langlois was given a bye in the first round then was able to defeat German and Dutch opponents. In his next bout, Langlois lost to the eventual gold medalist, Ayvengo Shabiev of Russia. In the bronze medal bout, he would succumb to Russia's Akhmad-Khadzhi Bekov.

Also in action was Whitby's Briana McCarcken competing in the 44kg weight class. McCarcken defeated Floortje Stoop of the Netherlands in the second round before falling to Anna Dmitrieva of Russia.
