The family of a slain Newmarket woman says she was lured by a co-worker to his friend’s home in Sutton to pick up her paycheque.
It was there Brenda Healey, 27, was murdered, her distraught parents said during an exclusive interview. They are angry they didn’t know Stephen Daniel, 43, of Pefferlaw (shortly after the murder committed suicide in north Durham) had attacked a woman with a knife nine years ago. Mr. Daniel was convicted of aggravated assault in an April 1999 attack.
If they had, they would never have approved of her working with the man at Pefferlaw's Have Bus Will Travel, Ms Healey's parents said.
Her family said they believe Mr. Daniel, 43, used his position of being in charge of her pay as leverage to get her to meet him outside the company’s office on a regular basis.
York Regional Police discovered Ms. Healey’s body in the washroom of a home on High Street on March 8 and investigators suspect the woman’s death is connected to Mr. Daniel’s suicide. He died the same day after being hit by a train in Brock Township.
Police are not looking for any other suspects.
“Our family circle has been broken,” said her father, Ed Healey.
“Frustrated? Certainly, we’re frustrated ... I hope he rots in hell.”
“Right now, I’m empty,” his wife, Geraldine, said.
Her dad recalls her loving nature, her mom, her cheer.
While Ms. Healey died more than two weeks ago, in her family’s hearts, she lives on.
“(She was) A loving daughter and good friend,” Mrs. Healey said.
A medical examination determined Ms. Healey died of drowning.
