Durham College to host the stars
Wed Mar 26, 2008
OSHAWA -- Anthony Batchelor will have one more opportunity to strut his stuff on the hardcourt at Durham College. The annual OCAA basketball all-star games come to campus this weekend with a little bit of a different theme than normal. There will be a touch of pink at the 21st edition of all-star weekend with the event being dubbed 'Think Pink' as an initiative to create awareness for breast cancer and the 'Power of Pink' campaign. The Saturday main event will feature the all-star games with the women's game tipping off at 6 p.m. followed by the men's game at 8:15 p.m., where Batchelor, who recently received a CCAA All-Canadian honour at the national championship banquet in Quebec, will suit up for one final time representing the Lords. After a stellar four-year career that saw him become the all-time leading scorer in OCAA men's basketball history earlier this season, along with winning the OCAA player of the year award, Batchelor is set to graduate. Over 150 athletes from 20 colleges across Ontario will be participating in this year's event scheduled to tip-off with the OCAA co-ed two-ball competition at 3:30 p.m. Players will also have the chance to shoot from long range during the Coca-Cola three-point Competition slated for 4:30 p.m. Whitby's Neil O'Sullivan of the Fleming Knights also captured an All-Canadian award and will suit up in Saturday's all-star festivities as well, while former Lords standout Bill Crowdis, who led the Knights to a 15-5 mark this season, will coach the East squad. On the women's side, the Lords will be represented by Jill Leistra and Erin Emery. Leistra, a native of Chatham, led the Lords in scoring this season, averaging 12.71 points per game, while Emery, a rookie from North Bay averaged 12.69 points a game. All events during all-star Saturday will be held in the new gym at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre.
