AJAX -- A Durham cop on routine patrol in Ajax seized an arsenal of weapons and a huge cache of illegal drugs during a traffic stop.

A kilogram of cocaine and three assault rifles were among the items seized during the stop, which occurred when the officer spotted an SUV wanted by cops travelling east on Hwy. 2 near Westney Road around 3:30 last Friday afternoon.

In addition to the assault rifles police recovered three sawed-off shotguns, two rifles, a Glock handgun and an inoperable grenade, along with five tool boxes packed with ammunition.

A kilo of cocaine worth an estimated $100,000 and four bottles of GHB, commonly known as the date rape drug, were found in the vehicle, police said. Officers also seized $10,000 in cash and equipment that led them to believe the suspect had plans to set up a drug lab.

Hanna Anastas, 34, of Montreal, faces numerous drug and weapons charges.
