OSHAWA -- Home ice advantage proved to be just that for the Oshawa Generals over the weekend.

Five different players scored goals on Sunday and Brett MacLean had four assists as the Oshawa Generals posted a 5-2 victory over the Ottawa 67’s in Game 2 of their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series at the General Motors Centre.

Brett Parnham and Patrick Asselin scored first period markers and Michael Del Zotto and John Tavares scored in the second frame before Corey Cowick rounded things out with a third period tally on Sunday.

The Generals held a 4-0 second period lead before Logan Couture beat Michal Neuvirth in the final minute of the period. Bowmanville’s Tyler Cuma of the 67’s scored midway through the third to cut the Oshawa lead to 4-2, but Cowick’s marker with just under five minutes remaining sealed the deal.

In all, Neuvirth made 29 saves for the Generals, while Adam Courchaine was beaten four times on 16 shots halfway through the game before being yanked in favour of Chris Perguini, who turned aside 14-of-15 shots the rest of the way..

The Generals took Game 1 of the series at home, a 3-2 victory on Friday and will head to Ottawa on Tuesday for Game 3 with a 2-0 series advantage.

Game 4 goes Thursday in Ottawa, with Game 5 (if necessary) slated for Friday at the GMC.
