Annandale was well represented in four OCA zone playdowns the Nov. 21 weekend, with seven teams in competition.

In the Pepsi junior women's zone draw at the Oshawa Golf and Curling Club, the Annandale ladies both advanced. Laura Arbour, Kristy Hurst, Krystan Haidasz and Emily Rose with coach Steve Hurst won the A side of the three-team zone. Lesley Pyne, Stacey Hogan, Suzanne Miller and Katie Hickey with coach Jennifer McGhee won the B side, so both teams will advance to the regional to be held at Thornhill Golf Nov. 28-29.

Michael Bryson and the team of James McPherson, Sandy Martin and Josh Hall with Susannah Moylan as their coach also advanced to the same regional after winning the B side over club mates Ben Bevan, Corey Gaudette, Jake McGhee and Carter Adair with Jennifer McGhee coaching.

The Dominion senior men's zone was held at Tam Heather Nov. 21-23. Thirteen men's teams entered and only two survived the double knockout to advance to the regional slated for Port Perry Dec. 12-13. Annandale teams skipped by Carl Vickers and David Lloyd were sidelined. In the senior women's event, five teams competed. Sandra Thain's foursome lost out in the B side final and does not advance.

Two Annandale women's teams were entered in the Toronto Curling Association Riviera Bonspiel last week. Rhonda Welch and Lorraine Scanlan took their teams into action but both teams were sidelined on Wednesday.

Annandale will host a bantam/junior bonspiel for curlers aged 12 to 20, on Saturday, Nov. 28. The event includes two eight-end games, lunch, snacks and prizes for all. Any combination of boys or girls is welcome and a competitive and non-competitive draw is featured.

The Ontario champions curling team of Glenn Howard with Pickering resident Richard Hart at vice, and the front end of Brent Laing and Craig Savill competed in the Brantford Sun Life Invitational Classic Nov. 20-23 but did not share the purse, a first this season. Next on their calendar is the Nissan Classic, also in Brantford, Nov. 26-29. Thirty-two teams are entered, all looking for a share of the $22,000 purse that has $5,000 allocated for the winner in the triple knockout event.
