Let's make Oshawa the place were we all get a chance to Kiss

Apr 23, 2009 - 04:30 AM

Do you like to rock and roll all night and party every day? You might soon get the chance to do just that if legendary band Kiss comes to town.

The hard-playin', makeup-wearin' metalheads are holding a contest right now to determine a site for one of their concerts during an upcoming North American tour and your city is currently No. 2 (to Winnipeg) with a bullet in an online poll. Who knows, we could soon be No. 1 and hold pride of place with Kiss icons Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley.

It all makes perfect sense. After all, Detroit Rock City was the first big place to embrace Kiss back in the 1970s. And though it's hard times for both Detroit and Oshawa right now, we are sister motor cities so it would be perfectly natural for Kiss to land in Oshawa and play, where else, at the General Motors Centre.

You could get up close and personal with about 6,500 of your buddies and hear some of the classics that made the band a hit back in the day when the Big 3 ruled the land. Sure, it's a bit of a nostalgia trip, but during these tough economic times, Oshawa could use something to feel good about and finishing atop a North American poll and welcoming a world-famous band to Durham's largest city would be a hoot for everybody.

Certainly a Kiss week would not be out of the question. The city would be able to garner loads of publicity as the winner of the Kiss poll and as the landing spot for that insatiable publicity hound Gene Simmons. If you've seen the eminently watchable Gene Simmons Family Jewels which explores the antics of the Kiss bassist, his partner (former Playmate and actress Shannon Tweed) and their son and daughter in the Hollywood Hills, you know the man loves the camera. Maybe, just maybe, Oshawa could become a major star.

It's all a very good news story at a time when we could all use a laugh. Kiss represents good times, fun, a chance to let down your hair, put on the makeup and kick out the jams. So, if you want the boys to make a pit stop in Oshawa, go to www.eventful.com, follow the links and vote for Oshawa. As they say, vote early, tell all your friends and let's bring Kiss to Oshawa. It's time to rock and roll!
