To the editor:
What a slap in the face to read that homeowners are getting a break from a 4.9 per cent increase to a four per cent increase on our property taxes.
I can't remember when our taxes didn't go up consistently every year.
I remember reading a while ago that Oshawa Mayor John Gray has told council that they need to look elsewhere for financial support other than putting the burden on the residential homeowner to support these increases which never seem to stop.
Cheers to Scugog Mayor Marilyn Pearce for having a realistic and practical approach to increases.
We need more people like Mayor Gray and Mayor Pearce on regional council. You have my vote every time.
A word of caution to regional council -- the hand that has been compliantly feeding you is going to bite you in the butt because you will have taxed us to the point where we cannot afford to pay our property taxes let alone our mortgages, lose our homes and the banks will be stuck with trying to sell repossessed homes that no potential home buyer will want because of the outrageous amount of property taxes they have to pay.
