Help name new Whitby school

Public board invites submissions for unnamed Lynde Shores location

Feb 03, 2010 - 10:34 AM

WHITBY -- Whitby's newest school needs a name.

The Durham District School Board is inviting the community to help name a new Lynde Shores public school to be located on Whitby Shores Greenway.

Names submitted can be after someone recognized as having made a significant contribution to Durham Region, Ontario, or Canada, with the exception of a current employee or member of the school board.

Submissions can also be after a historical name which once applied to the area where the school is located, the name of the district it will serve, or its street name.

Those wanting to suggest a name can do so in writing by March 8 to superintendent John Bowyer, Durham District School Board, 400 Taunton Rd E. Whitby, L1R 2K6, or by e-mail to bowyer_john@durham.edu.on.ca. Submissions should include a detailed background and history of the suggested names along with the writer's name, address and telephone number.
