Council voted on July 16 to allow new uses at Pleasure Valley on Brock Road, replacing existing activities including a waterslide.
Jacquie Lewis, the business owner, visited Town Hall in early June to request offering unserviced camping and overnight lodging on the property. Ms. Lewis said in June she was looking to transform the resort, which once also offered a rollerskating facility, to "a peaceful, private location... a unique environment for events such as weddings and old-fashioned picnics." The site will continue to be home to horseback riding.
The site was originally 640 acres since its inception in 1980, however currently operates on 104 acres. Fifty acres of land has been donated to the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority, said Ms. Lewis.
"In November of 2003, challenging land sensitive issues forced the closure of all aspects of the Pleasure Valley business except the equine division," reads the resort's website.
Some concerns, such as noise possibly impacting neighbouring residents and the potential for future expansion, popped up during a June 25 public meeting regarding the proposed zoning. Following the meeting, the Township received a handful of letters objecting to the zoning, however the majority of correspondence urged council to approve the application.
Liz Howson, Township consultant, stated in a report regarding the application, "The uses now proposed for the property by their nature, and through controls on the magnitude of the uses and design of buildings, structures and facilities, will allow conversion in a manner which will bring the permitted uses in closer conformity with the (Oak Ridges Moraine) Plan."
