Uxbridge blazes new trail

Path opening in July will be accessible

Jun 29, 2009 - 03:16 PM

UXBRIDGE -- The Township continues to blaze trails in town with a new accessible path opening in July.

The eighth in the Uxbridge Town Trails system, the Butternut Trail is just outside of Butternut Manor on Norm Goodspeed Drive and will officially open with a ribbon cutting and inaugural walk on Saturday, July 18, at 10 a.m. A reception will follow at the manor.

According to Victoria Walker, Uxbridge's trails co-ordinator, the new trail is a 1.5-kilometre loop, mostly paved, "and works its way through the Butternut community and passes by the original farm homestead and the 90-year-old butternut tree."

The trail continues past a pond and links to the South Balsam and Quaker trails, she added. "The Butternut Trail is accessible to all, including mobility scooters."

Ms. Walker said the new path reinforces Uxbridge's official title of Trail Capital of Canada, and noted a Trail Capital celebration is planned for Oct. 3 in Elgin Park.
