Jun 24, 2009 - 04:06 PM

UXBRIDGE -- Durham Regional Police are reminding residents to lock their vehicles and remove valuable items after arresting four youths in connection with thefts from vehicles in Uxbridge recently.

Durham Police say a resident on Marion Drive called them after seeing young males entering his car and vehicles of his neighbours around 2 a.m. on Thursday, June 18.

Four suspects were arrested shortly after for thefts involving "numerous entries to unlocked vehicles" on Marion and surrounding streets, according to police.

Matt Lewis, 20, of Nestleton, and Matthew McVety, 18, of Scugog are both charged with theft under $5,000 and possession of stolen property under $5,000. A 16-year-old from Balieboro and a 16-year-old from Port Perry also face the same charges. The teenagers cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Anyone with information regarding the thefts is asked to call north Durham police at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 2696. Anonymous tips can be made to Durham Region Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
