UXBRIDGE -- An Uxbridge resident is taking advantage of an opportunity to raise funds for the local animal shelter.
Jennifer Denney, who grew up in Stouffville and now lives in Uxbridge, said she still regularly attends the Stouffville Country Market on Tenth Line in Stouffville and noticed "a couple of hundred dogs and owners" walk through the market.
An idea popped into her head to organize Doggie Daze Social, a fundraiser with doggie-themed contests on Saturday, June 27, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Stouffville site.
"It's a social day for dogs and their people, and I realized it would be a perfect opportunity to do a fundraiser," she said.
While proceeds from a raffle and the sale of accessories will be donated to the Uxbridge-Scugog Animal Control Centre, prizes can be won in three categories: cutest puppy, most adorable senior (dog), longest tail (with tie-breaker for best-dressed), she said.
Contestants will be photographed for a Wall of Fame, and treats and water will be provided for the canines, she added. A registration table will be set up at the south main entrance to the market, she noted.
