UXBRIDGE -- Two Uxbridge youths have been arrested following a rash of thefts from cars in the Barton farms subdivision earlier this month.
Detective Sergeant Herb Curwain said two 17-year-old males, who can't be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, have both been charged with seven counts of theft and six counts of possession of stolen property. Det. Sgt. Curwain said one of the boys was caught in the act by an off-duty York police officer and a subsequent investigation by Durham police nabbed a second suspect.
The detective said unlocked vehicles in the neighbourhood were targeted, as well as an unlocked garage from which alcohol was taken from a fridge.
Cash, jewelry, cameras and GPS units were recovered, but police haven't found all the rightful owners yet, said Det. Sgt. Curwain. Residents are invited to call police if they think they've lost something from their vehicles recently. He said police know of thefts occurring on Aug. 14 and 17, but more could have taken place other days.
More charges are anticipated as police learn about additional thefts from the area, said the detective. Citizens are encouraged to check their vehicles to verify they have all their possessions, he added.
Anyone with information about the incidents is asked to call Det. Sgt. Herb Curwain or Det. Const. Lee Smith at 905-579-1520, ext. 2674 or 2696 respectively.
