Uxbridge's Matt Davis is off to Barrie
Centre selected in 15th round

UXBRIDGE -- If you were hit with a sudden gust of wind sometime in the afternoon of May 3 in Uxbridge, it probably came from the Davis household.
To be more specific, it likely came from Matt Davis as the 16-year-old Uxbridge resident exhaled with relief when he saw his name pop up on the screen in the 15th round of the Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection.
The Central Ontario Wolves product was tabbed by the Barrie Colts.
"It did get pretty nerve wracking, especially near the end because that is where I went, you know 15th round," says Davis of what the process was like. "It's was an interesting process though.
When Davis saw his name come up on the screen so late in the draft, a great feeling of accomplishment followed as he had expected to go at some point during the draft.
"I had talked to a few teams and I was expecting to go. We kept getting our OHL newsletters and I was on the list, so I expected to go," he says.
The 5-foot-11 190 pound centre had 27-34-61 totals in 38 games with the Wolves last season.
On the Colts website, director of player personnel Darrell Woodley had good things to say about their final draft pick.
"Matt is a small but skilled forward who can score," he said. "He is a good skater with speed and this allows him to create for his teammates. We feel that he could one day play in this league."
While Davis doesn't expect to play with the Colts next season, he does have his eyes set on attending the club's rookie camp next month.
After that he hopes to latch on with a Ontario Provincial Jr. A League team for next season.
If that doesn't work out, he could end up playing with the hometown Uxbridge Bruins, possibly alongside brother Derek.
