PETERBOROUGH -- In recent years, a trip to Peterborough hasn't been much to write home about for the Brooklin Redmen.
But things were drastically different Thursday night as Brooklin snapped a five-game Major Series Lacrosse losing streak by defeating the Lakers 10-7 at the Memorial Centre.
"Everything fell into place for a change," said head coach Peter Vipond. "What I mean is... (goalie) Kurtis (Wager) played the type of game he needs to, we ran well, defended well. We just did everything right."
After the Lakers opened the scoring, Brooklin followed with five straight to build an 8-2 lead.
Peterborough slowed the game down and mounted a comeback, making it 8-7, but the Redmen wouldn't quit.
After the Lakers closed the gap to one, Mike Carroll scored to increase the lead to two, and Shawn Williams capped a six-point night with an empty net goal.
Stephen Hoar, Dave Campbell, Kyle O'Brien, Geoff Griffiths, Derek Suddons and Derek Hopcroft also scored.
Hopcroft added four assists for a five-point night.
The Redmen will face another stiff test tonight as they host St. Regis at 6 p.m. at Iroquois Park.
