Do you find golf frustrating? Then you have a lot in common with most people that play this humbling game. It is a game that frustrates most good athletes. I was just on the phone with my friend that has played a little and thinks she might want to get back into it, but like many golfers, she doesn't like the idea that she can't be good at it right away. I love to tell new golfers how tough this silly game is! I have lots of job security. For as long as there will be golf there will be golfers that need lessons. Last night I was visiting friends and this one man said that he looked at his swing on video and could see what he was doing wrong. A picture can say a thousand words and if you have clue as to what a good golf swing is all about you too may be able to self correct. I am constantly telling my students what to look for in their swing... the cause and effect of what they do. The reasoning is that I won't always be around and I would like my students to become self sufficient. I will never be lacking golf students as this is a humiliating sport at times! One of my favourite lines is that if Tiger needs lessons who are we to think we don't need them! What I love about my job is that I give out free pointers to people that come and play our golf course all day long. Many are most appreciative for the help we give them... but some are just surprised when I move a hand or shoulder here or there and all of sudden they are hitting it straight. I love to tell people to experiment. If something you are doing isn't working, doesn't it make sense to try something else? This is most true with the short game. Those little shots around the greens can be very tricky but if you experiment with ball position, stance and how you swing you will be amazed at what you can potentially do with the ball. Golf is just a game, and like all sports it is meant to be fun. Remember that when you are out with your friends, go out and have a great time as golf is a game of a lifetime.
