Annual children's fundraiser to be held June 4 at new coffee outlet on Old Simcoe Road
May 15, 2008 - 11:07 AM
PORT PERRY -- Elvis will provide the tunes and Tim Hortons will be brewing up the coffee. The rest will be up to the Scugog community next month when the popular java outlet hosts its annual 'Camp Day' fundraiser.
The local effort came oh-so-close to hitting the $10,000 mark in 2007 and organizers are hoping to push past that mark on June 4 when the yearly fundraiser is held at Port Perry's newest Tim Hortons location at 15930 Old Simcoe Rd.
And, while all proceeds from coffee sales that day will be forwarded along to the Tim Hortons Children's Foundation, local organizers are hoping to add to those donation figures by offering a wide variety of fundraising activities.
Among them will be a silent auction and the sale of prize balloons ($1), T-shirts ($5) and hats ($8). Guest can also guess how many jelly beans are in a jar for $1 and pay a loonie for a chance to select the correct key which will open a prize box.
Throughout the day, local firemen and police officers, as well as other well-known local personalities, will be on hand in the restaurant greeting customers and selling items.
As well, Scugog Elvis impersonator Ron Moore will arrive at 11:30 a.m. to croon some tunes and provide entertainment.
All children who attend a Tim Hortons Children's Foundation camp are selected from within the communities where Tim Hortons stores are located as store owners work closely with local youth organizations to select appropriate children between the ages of nine and 12. Since 1974, more than 63,000 children and youth have attended a Foundation camp, at no cost to them or their families.
In addition to Camp Day, funding for the children's foundation comes from year-round public donations collected through counter and drive-through coin boxes located at Tim Hortons outlets as well as other special events, and donations.
