Heritage Evening planned for Feb. 16
Feb 01, 2010 - 05:02 PM
PORT PERRY -- The past and future of one of Port Perry's oldest landmarks will be the focus of Scugog's upcoming Heritage Week celebrations.
An evening dedicated to the history and days ahead for the Currie Grain Elevator, known as the 'Old Mill', will be held on Feb. 16 in the Scugog council chambers at 181 Perry St.
A Port Perry landmark alongside the shoreline of Lake Scugog, the Old Mill was recently purchased by the Township.
Among those leading the discussion surrounding the mill will be Paul Arculus, president of the Lake Scugog Historical Society, who will outline the history of the grain elevator.
Joining him will be Jordan Grant and Catharine Nasmith, who pocketed the 2009 Heritage Canada Foundation National Achievement Award for the rehabilitation and adaptive re-use of the Alton Mill.
The gathering will run from 7 to 9 p.m.
