SCUGOG -- The final tally for how much Scugog's councillors cost taxpayers in 2009 stands at $154,136.

According to a staff report included in the Feb. 1 municipal committees meeting agenda, Scugog's seven elected representatives received remuneration last year totalling $140,436.

On top of that, they were reimbursed expenses for conference-related costs, mileage and Blackberry usage totalling $13,700.

Leading the paycheque parade was Scugog Mayor Marilyn Pearce, who pocketed $29,670 in salary, plus 1,955 for expenses, totalling $31,625.

Regional Councillor Jim McMillen was paid $19,993, while each of the five ward councillors received $18,154.

Mayor Pearce billed for the most mileage ($1,762.49), followed by Ward 3 Councillor Lynn Philip Hodgson ($1,034) and Ward 1 Councillor Cecil Lamrock ($1,022).

As chairman of Scugog's works committee, Coun. Hodgson attends two conferences per year as a representative of the Township.

Ward 5 Councillor Georgia Brock filed no expenses for 2009 and Coun. McMillen was the only other politician not to submit expenses related to mileage.

Remuneration figures include both salary and pension contributions made on behalf of each councillor in 2009.

Under the Municipal Act, council salaries and expenses must be disclosed to the public annually.

When the report came before council on Feb. 1, it was passed unanimously with no discussion.
