Claremont carnival welcomes all of Pickering

Annual festival runs Jan. 29 to Feb. 7

PICKERING -- Claremont is gearing up for the annual Claremont Winter Carnival.

And all are welcome to the festival, packed with events from Friday, Jan. 29 to Sunday, Feb. 7, said organizer Andre Kern.

The carnival starts Jan. 29, with events that include a karaoke competition at the 483 Royal Canadian Legion Branch, 4937 Old Brock Rd N,, at 9 p.m.

On Jan. 30, Hy-Hope Farm, 5450 Lakeridge Rd., will host a family toboggan day at 1:30 p.m.; $2 per person.

Jan. 31 will include the Xtreme Youth and Lions Beef Dinner at 5 p.m. at the Claremont Community Centre, 4941 Old Brock Road; $12 for adults, $6 12 and under.

Feb. 1, the snow sculpture contest will take place on various front yards at 10 a.m. If there's no snow, any type of sculpture will do. Those wishing to participate must sign up by Jan. 31.

On Feb. 2, the community centre's senior room will host a euchre tournament at 7 p.m.; $2.

The 1st Claremont Beavers will show Up Feb. 3 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Legion; $5, including a drink and treat.

An adult volleyball tournament will take place Feb. 4 at the Claremont Community Centre; $5.

Feb. 5 will feature a blind dart tournament at the Legion at 7:30 p.m.; $5.

Feb. 6 from 8 to 10 a.m. the Claremont United Church, 5052 Old Brock Rd., will host a pancake breakfast; $8 per adult, $6 per child.

At 11 a.m. the parade will travel through town, and events, including a barbecue, carnival games, crafts and a soup and chili contest, will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the community centre.

The Lions Trapper's Ball will take place at the community centre at 8 p.m.; $15 per person, $25 per couple.

The carnival will end Feb. 7 with a snowshoe event at the Spring Creek Golf Course, 2425 9th Concession Rd., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It's free, but call to book in advance.
