Accountability is the name of the game

To the editor:

Re: C'mon and give our hard-working City councillors a break, James Quaill letter, May 11.

The writer makes the comment the taxpayers' outrage is too harsh when the local councillor makes a mistake that costs us money and some ask that the money be paid back.

Sure we are upset. In the private sector, a mistake that leads to a big loss means you may lose your job. In the public sector, the employee still keeps his job and there is no accountability.

However, with enough mistakes from elected officials, we the taxpayer can vote them out. The good ones stay, the bad ones go, as long as the lazy voter makes the effort to vote.
