DURHAM REGION -- Two days of contract talks have ended without a deal for Durham Region cops and the stage is now set for an escalation of job action that includes officers exercising discretion when issuing tickets. A police services board news release Saturday night said negotiations with the union ended at 4:20 p.m. without an agreement.Officers are already wearing ball caps while on duty and handing out information pamphlets to protest what they see as slow progress in talks and could begin exercising discretion in handing out traffic tickets beginning at 7 a.m. Monday.  The union announced last week that it would escalate the job ... read more
