Christmas ruined by vandals

Dec 03, 2008 - 03:13 PM

To the editor:

It is pretty sad when a young family goes out and spends money on decorations to be destroyed by some punks just for fun.

When our Halloween decorations were stolen and ruined, we figured it was kids being mischievous and pulling bad pranks.

Not fair, but it happens.

I was not going to put out festive decorations, but "nothing has ever happened to our Christmas decorations" says my husband, only to find tonight that someone has taken a cigarette to burn holes in our inflatable Santa. How shall we explain to our three-year-old daughter and six-year-old son that this has happened when they still believe in the magic of Christmas and goodness of people?

I hope the kids responsible for this feel especially proud of themselves, knowing that a hardworking family has had their Christmas cheer destroyed and don't have the means of replacing what they have taken away.
