Regional chairman, police service's board treating police unfairly

Oct 07, 2008 - 03:54 PM

To the editor:

I would like to begin by expressing my sincerest regrets for the actions I and my colleagues have been forced to undertake. When I took my oath upon becoming a police officer, I never envisioned our Regional officials would behave in a manner that forced me to speak out and to act in response to their complete lack of respect and unfair treatment.

I was born and raised in this community and I am proud to call Durham Region my home. However, the continued unfair treatment and disrespect Regional Chairman Roger Anderson and the Police Services Board has demonstrated towards the men and women of our great service has contributed significantly to what I see as a situation that is of great concern to all of us within this community.

I want what all our citizens expect and deserve. What my colleagues and I strive for every day -- to be treated fairly and with respect! However, Mr. Anderson's and the Police Service Board's unfair conduct has been allowed to continue unabated for too many years.

I believe Mr. Anderson's and the Police Service Board's unfair conduct has only served to create a situation that has significant repercussions for our community.

For the first time in my 17 years serving Durham Region, I have serious concerns about whether or not I can truly deliver my services in a way that we as citizens are entitled to.
