Greer returns; Warriors win

Defeat Toronto Monday before hosting Brampton Tuesday

Jun 06, 2007 - 11:18 AM

TORONTO -- Just call him fashionably late.

Coming off a heartbreaking loss with Duke University in the NCAA Division I lacrosse final last week, Zack Greer, the 21-year-old Whitby product, made his much ballyhooeded return to the Warriors fold on Monday night, arriving at the rink in Toronto some 20 minutes prior to their game with the Beaches.

While his return was welcomed with open arms, it was the stick of Marc Jackson that stole the show Monday.

He scored three times and added an assist as the Warriors chalked up a 12-8 victory over Toronto, improving their record to 4-1-1 heading into last night's contest (after our deadline) against Brampton.

Jackson scored once in each of the first, second and third periods, while Kyle O'Brien and Nick Cotter added a pair of tallies each for the Warriors. Singles were provided by Mitch McMichael, who was playing in his first game since returning from school, Alex Henderson and Mike Pearson.

Chris Davey led the assist parade with three, while goaltender Joel Weber chipped in with two while earning the victory, and Greer had one in his return despite limited floor time.

One of the biggest determining factors in Monday's outcome was the Warriors potent power play, which had sputtered at times this season. They converted six times against Toronto, which was clearly an encouraging sign for coach Jeff McComb and his staff.

"That's an area that for some reason we've struggled with so far," said McComb. "And it was good to see them come out like that. We didn't use Zack on the power play, or Brad Levick who just returned as well. We let the guys who have been there so far try and work it out and they did a good job."
