Up to 10 cm fell overnight

DURHAM -- Overnight snowfall has left slushy and sloppy road conditions just in time for the trip to work or school for many in Durham Region.
Up to 10 cm of snow fell overnight. And for many cleaning off the car will be the first challenge of the day.
Plows have begun clearing major streets and no problems are reported on the major highways.
The Ministry of Transportation says conditions range from slushy, to bare and wet, to partially snow covered on the provincially maintained routes.
GO Transit reports that trains are running on time.
And as of 5 a.m., no problems were reported for local school bus routes.
The pre-snow rush for homeowners began Wednesday for drivers and homeowners.
"They're picking up the salt, ice melter, shovels, and the snow scrapers for the car," Lisa Goodes-Furey, the owner of Goodes Hardware in Courtice, told newsdurhamregion.com.
Ms. Goodes-Furey said about one out of every three customers coming into the store was looking for winter related supplies.
The snow began about 5 p.m. and continued this morning.
"For us to get snow at the end of November is not really unheard of," Peter Kimbell, a warning preparedness meteorologist with Environment Canada said.
The snow will taper off this morning with temperatures rising to just above freezing during the day. However, a cold night is in the forecast with a low expected to hit minus 10.
