OSHAWA -- Durham's writers, poets, songwriters and storytellers are being celebrated with their own festival this weekend.
The first Stellar Literary Festival takes place Sept. 22 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Oshawa Valley Botanical Gardens, 155 Arena St.
Stella Ducker has organized the event, noting a lack of any kind of festival to celebrate the written word and the best of Durham's authors, songwriters and storytellers. She's planned a day of activities with a literary bent.
Among those taking part are Lynn Philip Hodgson, author of the Camp X series of books, Graham Ducker, author and head of the local branch of the Poetry Society of Ontario, musicians and storytellers Heather Whaley and Kim Michele, Michael Khashmanian, playwright and director, Dorothea Helms, known as the Writing Fairy, Tim Simms, of Worlds Collide, John B. Lee, poet laureate from Brantford, Allan Briesmaster, poet from Thornhill, Sharon Lawrence, widow of the late R.D. Lawrence, Richard Grove, president of the Canada Cuba Literary Alliance, and a representative from Hidden Brook Press.
The event is free.
