Annis adds blue-liner, ships out forward in separate deals

OSHAWA -- After opening the new year with three straight wins, the Durham Fury made a little more noise in advance of Thursday's Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League trade deadline.
General manager John Annis shipped veteran forward Rob Kay to the Lindsay Muskies of the Eastern Division in exchange for future considerations. Big things were expected out of Kay heading into the year, but after sustaining an injury over the summer, he was never able to find his stride, finishing with 10-10-20 numbers in 37 games with the Fury.
In only 23 games with the club last season, after being scooped up from Port Hope, the Newtonville product had 12 goals and five assists.
"After he hurt his back in the summer, he was never able to really bounce back for us," said Annis attempting to sum up Kay's mediocre numbers. "He's a great kid, a fantastic kid and I know he'll be able to help that Lindsay club."
In another deal, Annis added some veteran depth to his relatively inexperienced blue-line, acquiring 20-year-old Jeff Deane from the Markham Waxers in exchange for futures. At 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds Deane will add some toughness to the back end.
"He is a real solid tough kid," said Annis. "We're glad he wanted to come here and help out the young guys."
Deane will get a chance to play his former team on Tuesday as the Waxers make a trip to the Campus Ice Centre to face the Fury in a 7:30 p.m. faceoff.
