Clarington group asks residents to Bowl for Kids' Sake

Annual fundraiser kicks off later this month

Feb 05, 2010 - 11:33 AM

CLARINGTON -- Big Brothers and Sisters of Clarington is hoping bowling is right up residents' alley.

The group is beginning its annual Bowl for Kids' Sake fundraiser later this month at Liberty Bowl, on Baseline Road in Bowmanville.

The event raises money for an array of children's programs run by the local organization, including in-school mentoring, Big Bunch gatherings and one-to-one pairings.

The fundraising goal is $40,000 this year, said Big Brothers and Sisters' Clarington executive director Darlene Brown. Last year, $35,000 was raised, but that was down from years past, likely due to the economy, she said.

"The biggest part of our budget comes from fundraising," Ms. Brown said.

Without events like Bowl for Kids' Sake, "we wouldn't be able to offer the variety of programs we do."

Bowlers will be able to choose from lane times on Feb. 15, 20 or 22.

For more information, visit http://www.bigbrothersandsisters.ca or contact the organization's office at 905-623-6646.
