Drugs, gun and cash found in car, police arrest men in Oshawa and Whitby

DURHAM -- A police traffic stop in Whitby on Tuesday led to the seizure of cash, drugs, a handgun, and several arrests.

Police executed search warrants in Whitby and Oshawa after officers with the gang and drug enforcement unit stopped a man driving on Thickson Road North at Winchester Road East in Whitby on Tuesday. Inside the vehicle was 1.78 kilograms of marijuana, pre-packaged for sale and valued at $17,800, a handgun with ammunition, and more than $2,000 in Canadian currency.

Curtis Wilson, age 25, of Whitby, is charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a restricted handgun, possession of a controlled substance, breach of probation and numerous weapon offences. He was held for a bail hearing.

As a result of the investigation, search warrants were executed at residences on Ritson Road North in Oshawa and Tunney Place in Whitby. Police seized marijuana at the Ritson Road North location, and marijuana, a money counter and approximately $10,000 at the Whitby home.

Andrew Clarke, age 22, of Brunswick Street in Oshawa, is charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Ryan Robertson, age 22, of Ritson Road in Oshawa, is charged with trafficking a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance.

Justin Long, age 21, of Ritson Road in Oshawa, is charged with possession of a controlled substance.

All three accused were released, to appear in court at a later date.

Members of the Durham Region anti-violence intervention strategy team, along with officers from 17 Division community response unit, assisted with the investigation.
