Gas bars hit in early-morning break-ins

Oct 08, 2008 - 05:17 PM

DURHAM -- Thieves hit two Canadian Tire gas bar kiosks in smash-and-grab style break-ins early Tuesday.

The first incident occurred at the Canadian Tire outlet on Gibb Street in Oshawa at approximately 2 a.m. when someone smashed the front door of a kiosk, then broke into a display case and grabbed a number of global positioning system units, Durham police said.

A cleaner working the night shift at the store described the suspect as a man in his mid-40s with short brown hair.

At 4:45 a.m. police responded to an alarm call at a Canadian Tire gas bar kiosk on Dundas Street East in Whitby. Cash and cigarettes were stolen.

Police have no suspect description for the second incident.
