Three men charged after they were found cultivating crop along Lake Scugog shoreline, say police

SCUGOG -- Three men are facing drug possession and production charges after its alleged they were caught harvesting a crop of pot in a marshy area of the Lake Scugog shoreline last Friday afternoon.
According to Durham police, officers were dispatched to a Hwy. 7A address around 4 p.m. on Sept. 19 after it was reported that three men were harvesting marijuana plants in a marshy area and had left the scene in an aluminum boat.
Authorities attending the scene quickly located the suspects and an aluminum boat beside a Toyota van that was parked at a boat launch alongside Hwy. 7A, just east of Reader Road, say police.
The suspects were arrested without incident and a search of the van revealed a black garbage bag containing four-and-a-half pounds of pot with a street value of about $9,000, police say.
Charged with one count each of possession for the purpose of trafficking and production of cannabis are Shen Xin, 43, of Stouffville, Bang Shuai, 25, of Toronto and Bin Zhang, 24, of Scarborough.
All three were held for a bail hearing.
