Local farm reaps soybean award

Jan 26, 2010 - 11:58 AM

CLARINGTON -- Local farmer Donald Rickard has reaped an award for soybean production.

Mr. Rickard was this area's winner of the Ontario 2009 soybean yield challenge, after harvesting an average of 59.9 bushels per acre during the contest.

The yield is "record-setting for this area," Clarington Mayor Jim Abernethy said in presenting Mr. Rickard with a plaque in recognition of the accomplishment.

"Family and friends now refer to him as the 'Soybean King,'" Mayor Abernethy said.
