BOWMANVILLE -- Baseline Road, west of Liberty Street, is washed out and traffic is being re-routed in what Clarington CAO Franklin Wu calls an "annual occurrence."

Signs have gone up in the area, and traffic is being sent to other east-west routes, until the situation reverses itself.

"A couple of times a year, we get this condition," said Mr. Wu, who is acting director of operations. "Basically, we just have to wait for the water to subside."

This is a little earlier than the road, which is near Soper Creek, would usually wash out, Mr. Wu said.

"Usually, it's in the early spring, when we have a huge amount of water rushing, and the ice is not quite melted yet."

Mr. Wu couldn't say how long the road is likely to be closed.
