CLARINGTON -- Schools all over Clarington are doing their part to help in relief efforts for Haiti.
Clarington Central Secondary School has a goal of raising $2,500 with its Loose Change for Change campaign. students have already raised hundreds of dollars.
Students and staff at Courtice North Public School are going to have a little fun to raise money. The school will be running two student-staff volleyball games, and will be organizing a pyjama day, where students and staff will get the opportunity to wear their p.j.'s to school.
Dr. G.J. MacGillivray Public School will be holding a 24-hour famine, which will involve a sleepover at the school. The school will also be holding a penny drive, hat days for students and a dress-down week for teachers.
Hampton Junior Public School held a Hats for Haiti day on Jan. 22.
The Help for Haiti fundraiser at Enniskillen Public School sees students, staff and parents being encouraged to donate loonies and toonies to the cause.
Harold Longworth Public School students can wear a hat indoors or get out of doing their homework for a cost of just $2, and staff will be allowed to dress down.
Messages of hope, love and peace are being displayed on bracelets at a fundraiser being held at John M. James Public School. Students will be making and selling the bracelets to raise money to donate to Haiti and will also be holding a penny drive.
Kirby Public School will be holding a fundraising campaign, started by a Grade 6 student, that features activities such as Hats For Haiti.
Grade 4 students at Lydia Trull Public School have initiated a two-week campaign, Helping Haiti Loonie/ Toonie Drive, with all funds being donated to the Red Cross.
M.J. Hobbs Senior Public School students held an event Jan. 22, entitled Hats For Haiti. They will also be holding Cookies For Haiti on Jan. 26, Hair For Haiti Jan. 29, and Hearts For Haiti on Feb. 12.
Classroom fundraisers are just the beginning at Orono Public School. The school is planning to hold a pancake breakfast for all students at the end of January.
The Pines Senior Public School's student council collected donations and held a bake sale Jan. 21-22.
S.T. Warden Public School is holding Spare Change for Haiti Week. Money from the hot lunch on Jan. 22 was also collected, and will be donated to the Red Cross efforts.
