COURTICE -- An Oshawa man and his sister have been charged in a heist that saw a large amount of drugs stolen from a Courtice pharmacy Monday.
An estimated $100,000 worth of drugs, including the opiates Dilaudid and Oxycontin, were taken from the pharmacy during the 2 p.m. robbery, Durham police said. Witnesses told cops a man and woman entered the Pharmasave at Courtice Road and Hwy. 2 and made for the back of the store, where the woman confronted several employees and told them the man had a gun.
The employees were ordered to a back room and the bandits took the drugs from a safe before fleeing, police said.
A man busted in an unrelated incident at the Oshawa Centre was found to have a large quantity of pills in his possession and confessed to his role in the robbery, police said. Cops serving a search warrant at an Oshawa apartment complex after that arrest, took custody of a woman with drugs in her purse.
James Henry Aldred, 35, and 39-year-old Kelly Kathleen Aldred, both of Simcoe Street North, are charged with robbery and forcible confinement. Kelly Aldred is also charged with failing to comply with probation, obstructing police and possession for the purpose of trafficking.
