Parts shortage sends GM workers home early

Jun 04, 2008 - 12:22 PM

OSHAWA -- Employees at the General Motors car plant in Oshawa were sent home early on Wednesday, due to a parts shortage.

Workers on the day shift left the plant at about 11 a.m.

It was expected that many of them would head up to GM headquarters to join a protest by CAW Local 222 members that had already attracted hundreds of GM employees by mid-morning.

GM Canada spokesman Stew Low was unable to provide information on the type of parts in short supply or the supplier.

However, he said the situation would be temporary, with car plant employees on the afternoon shift expected to report to work as usual.
