Durham Region's way to find cheaper gas

DURHAM-- It's up more than 16 cents in just one year.
Gas was $1.09 a litre at this time last year. But fueling up for the first long weekend of the season is going to cost you. Most gas stations in Durham region have raised prices to at least $1.25 a litre.
"I just bought this two months ago, when it was 99.9." said pickup truck owner, Norm Owens. He drives a Ford F-150 and said it would cost him $150 to fill up his vehicle at the high price gas is at now. "I'll never fill it up again." $80 is the limit now.
With the price at the pump on the rise, Mr. Owens isn't the only one who is fed up.
Kris Barnier, provincial affairs specialist with CAA, said his members are feeling the pinch when it comes to planning their holidays.
"Our members are telling us they are still going to take vacations but what they are going to do is be a little more mindful of exactly where they're going and they're going to be doing a lot of things to make sure they're reducing their gas expenditures."
Mr. Barnier suggests finding the lowest gas prices in your area.
"The best advice we can give you is to hunt around. Look for the best gas retailers in your area. Make sure that you know when the prices tend to go up or down during the course of the day."
newsdurhamregion.com Thursday launched a new program that will help motorists find cheaper gas in Durham Region. It's called the Pump Price Watch and readers are being encouraged to provide pump price reports.
Motorists can also earn a chance to win a free car cleaning by keeping tabs on prices at the pumps.
Details are on newsdurhamregion.com where you can register for the Pump Price Watch.
