Clerk assaulted in Bowmanville convenience store heist

Aug 30, 2008 - 11:30 AM

BOWMANVILLE -- A clerk was assaulted during an armed robbery at a Bowmanville convenience store Thursday night.

The clerk was treated for injuries after he was hit on the head with a rifle during the heist, at the Daisy Mart Variety on King Street. Durham police said the victim was assaulted and held at gunpoint as the store was robbed of cash, cigarettes and lottery tickets during the 11:50 p.m. robbery.

Three suspects described as men in their 20s fled on foot after the incident.

A person who answered the phone at the store Friday said the clerk was recovering, but refused further comment on the incident.

“We’re shocked,” the woman said.

Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to call police at 905-579-1520, ext. 5355, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
