Feds boost Canada Day parties with $3,700 in funds

Jun 22, 2009 - 05:11 PM

The Canada Day celebrations in Beaverton and Cannington have received a more than $3,700 boost from the federal government.

Last week, MP Barry Devolin announced that the Cannington Lions Club will receive $2,015 for its party in MacLeod Park on July 1, while organizers of the Beaverton festivities will receive $1,750. The funding will flow through the government's Celebrate Canada program.

In making the announcement, Mr. Devolin credited organizers for their efforts.

"Celebrate Canada activities have become a tradition offering Canadians the opportunity to share their pride in their country. The success of these events is due, in great part, to the volunteer members who work tirelessly to ensure each Canadian has an opportunity to enjoy local celebrations," Mr. Devolin said in a press release.

"I'd like to thank Walter Schummer of the Cannington Lions Club and Karen Windatt of the Beaverton Canada Day Committee for their hard work and their successful application for funding. Having the opportunity to thank people for their hard work and commitment to making our communities better is one of the most rewarding things that I do as your MP."
