Sunderland Public School has a new scoreboard, dedicated in memory of a man with a "passion" for youth sports.

The scoreboard was donated by the Sunderland Old Harvesters hockey team, with money raised from its annual Harold Fair Memorial Golf Day, named after their former teammate and friend who passed away.

Members of the team -- along with Mr. Fair's wife, daughter and grandson -- gathered at the school last week to celebrate the donation of the scoreboard and the hanging of a commemorative plaque.

"The scoreboard within this gym has been donated in memory of Harold Fair, a great friend and teammate. Harold had a passion and interest in youth sports within our community. He proudly watched his own children, Jillian and Matt, along with many other athletes excel through physical activities and sport," the plaque reads.

"Many athletes, in our school and community, will look to this scoreboard as they participate physical activities and sporting events. In doing so, they will to share Harold's love and enjoyment of sport."

Making a brief statement to students, team member Ron Woitzik said that he hopes the new scoreboard brings some luck.

"I hope the score on the left (under the home team) is always a little higher than the one on the right," he said.
