Cannington man facing more than 40 firearm charges

May 26, 2009 - 12:35 PM

Police seized 25 firearms after a search of a Cannington home last week.

According to police press release, Durham Regional Police officers -- with the assistance of the Provincial Weapons Enforcement Unit -- searched a Cameron Street East home on Thursday (May 21). Police seized 19 long guns, six handguns and 15 prohibited ammunition magazines, as well as a "large amount" of ammunition.

The press release explains that while the guns were registered properly, the owner has not completed the required licensing.

John William Brook, 52, has been charged with 42 weapon-related offenses. He has been released from police custody on a promise to appear in court.
