BROCK -- The Region of Durham is providing special garbage collection for dead carp washing up on the shores of Lake Simcoe.
In response to the large number of dead carp, on July 3, 4, 7 and 11 the Region will pick up carcasses from residents who live along the east shore of the lake from Beaverton (including Alsops Beach) to Port Bolster.
The fish carcasses should be placed in double garbage bags weighing no more than 44 lbs. and they should be at the curb by no later than 7 a.m. Residents should take safety precautions when handling the dead fish, including washing their hands with hot water and soap and disinfecting shovels or tools that touched the fish with bleach.
Dead carp are not to be taken to the Brock Township Landfill or placed in the green bin.
