AJAX -- Police are appealing for tips from the public as they attempt to recover a child's ashes, stolen during a break-in at an Ajax home Monday. A pendant containing the ashes of a couple's infant son was among the property stolen during the day-time theft from a home on Clements Road East, said Durham police Detective Adam Kelly. "The person responsible for this probably doesn't know what they have," Det. Kelly said. "I don't want it to be passed on or sold or given to another person." The couple, who are in their 40s, are extremely distraught over the theft of the child's remains, he said. "Something like this, you can't put a price tag on it," Det. Kelly said. The circular pendant, on a 16-inch silver chain, is about the size of a toonie and three-quarters of an inch thick. Leaves and branches are engraved on both sides of the pendant. Det. Kelly is appealing to anyone -- including the perpetrator of the break-in -- to have a heart and either return the item to the grieving parents or provide cops with information on its whereabouts. "I don't care (how information is provided) as long as we get it back to the family," he said. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 905-579-1520, ext. 2524 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
