Trust fund set up to aid Bowmanville fire victims

May 05, 2008 - 11:53 AM

BOWMANVILLE -- A trust fund has been set up to aid residential victims of the fire that tore through businesses and apartments in downtown Bowmanville last week.

About 15 people were assisted through the Red Cross Durham Region Disaster Management Program, the Bowmanville Salvation Army and Durham Region Social Services.

It's believed two families -- one of which had not yet moved into their apartment but were expected to do so a few days after the fire -- have been permanently displaced as a result of the blaze.

Rick James, of James Publishing, and Dan Strike, of Strike Furlong Ford, have set up a trust fund to aid victims of the blaze.

The account (03072-8100-275) is held at the Bank of Montreal, at 2 King St. in Bowmanville. Cheques should be made out to "Victims of Bowmanville Fire."
