DURHAM -- A former bookkeeper has been charged with defrauding an Ajax Royal Canadian Legion branch of more than $65,000.

The arrest came after a review of accounts at the branch revealed significant cash shortages between November 2007 and January 2008, Durham police said.

An investigation by Durham police led to Pauline Neill, 60, of Devondale Street in Courtice, being charged with a single count of fraud over $5,000.
